The Big Read at local library

McLEANSBORO — McCoy Memorial Library, a first-year participant in The Big Read — a program aimed at encouraging reading “for pleasure and enlightenment” — has 75 copies of “The Maltese Falcon,” the crime fiction novel by Dashiell Hammett, available to the public at no charge.

The McLeansboro library will host a discussion of the book at 5:30 p.m. April 22.

The library also has 500 free copies of a “Maltese Falcon” study guide available.

Ryan Nelson of McLeansboro, a past participant in the program offered through Rend Lake College, made the proposal to bring The Big Read to the local library this year.
