McLEANSBORO — Dirt work started Monday at the site of a new city fire station/maintenance building on Marshall Avenue, a half block south of Illinois Route 142 on the city's west side.
City officials are hoping to have a building ready for occupancy by the city’s fire and street departments within six months, Mayor Dick Deitz said Monday.
The new building will replace the city's current cramped fire station at City Hall, which is more than 80 years old.
