Local girl takes first at golf tourney
BLOOMINGTON —
A 7-year-old McLeansboro youth took first place in two events at the 2010 COUNTRY Youth Classic Golf Tournament.
Kylee Vaughan took first place June 30 in the 6- to 7-year-old girls division at the tournament sponsored by COUNTRY Financial, according to information from the company.
She competed against three players at The Links at Ireland Grove golf course and had a combined score of 85 for the two-day event; par was 32.
Vaughan also took first place in the short-game contest at the tournament. Winners of the short-game contest were chosen based on the combined distances of their chip and pitch shots; they were given two attempts for each shot type.
The short-game contest was one of three individual competitions held June 28 during the event practice rounds. Golfers also were eligible to participate in the longest-drive and putting contests. There were 108 participants in the event.
The COUNTRY Youth Classic, established in 2002 for golfers age 3 to 22, took place June 28 to 30 on six Bloomington-Normal golf courses: Highland Park, Ironwood, Illinois State University, The Den at Fox Creek, Prairie Vista and The Links at Ireland Grove.
Vaughan is the daughter of Barry and Kim Vaughan of McLeansboro.
