Letter: Maybe everyone has a little bit of ‘Blago’ in them

To the editor:

I wish to offer my congratulations to disgraced former Illinois Gov. Milorad “Rod” Blagojevich for mostly “beating the rap” in his recent trial.

Please remember, Rod, that in these technologically advanced times, always act like you are being recorded at all times; in other words, keep your mouth shut!

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it was very noticeable that U.S. Attorney Eric Holder wasn’t going to allow his subordinate, Pat Fitzgerald, call as witnesses for the prosecution Tony Rezko, Stu Levine or Rahm Emanuel. That showed me that “the fix was in.” The feds have stashed Rezko away really deep, haven’t they?

Those three as witnesses would have allowed Milorad’s attorneys to cross- examine them. Those guys know way too much about the truth, and would have been a huge problem for the Obama administration if certain “history” came to light, like that “funny” land deal between Obama and Rezko in Chicago, where Rezko sold Obama 20 feet off his (Rezko’s) vacant city lot (worth 250K) so that Obama would have a bigger yard, but also thereby making Rezko’s lot too small to build on, greatly decreasing its value. Oops; we were supposed to forget about that.

Mr. Holder was not going to let that happen.

In my personal opinion, almost all politicians have varying degrees of “Blago” in them. It seems that ego, arrogance and a little bit of authority make people do strange things, as if they are immune to scrutiny.

Perhaps we all are infected to some extent with “Blago”; perhaps it is the human condition.

Rod, I truly hope the feds don’t retry you. You are now a convicted felon, and I believe that is enough. Like George Ryan, kiss your state pension goodbye. I hope you get probation and community service.

You aren’t any different from any of them, Democrat or Republican.

I remember seeing photos of you with our local state reps and senators, all smiles and handshakes. Strange how those politicians have become invisible now, isn’t it?

Quite a bit of state dough was funneled down here for infrastructure and other projects. That did keep a number of folks working. Thank you for that.

Cheer up; as time goes by, other things will occur which will divert the public’s attention and you will become a footnote in our infamous political history. Maybe the feds will even forget to retry you, citing the economy, global warming, Obama’s vacation, etc.

In a few years, you will be a megamultimillionaire like Bill Clinton and everyone will love you.
