Letter: Speak out for residents of nursing home
To the editor,
I’d like to take a minute to tell you about my job at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center.
I spend my day with an amazing group of people. They love music. They love to go to church and sing. They enjoy parties, manicures and can’t wait to play bingo. They enjoy mealtimes so they can socialize and talk about what’s going on in their world, which is very much a part of our world.
They are still a vibrant part of this community. We laugh with them, and when they cry, we cry. They have become like family to the people who work at this facility.
They can’t get the word out to the public, but they and we as their extended family would like to say to you, take a moment this week and tell someone how you feel about the situation facing Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center. Do it for them as they try to understand what is going on and for those that can’t speak at all.
We need to let the people who are making these decisions know how we feel as a community. These residents lived their whole lives in Hamilton County or have moved back to retire and spend their last days in this very building which is their home.
Please speak out for them. Come visit anytime; they would love to see you. Sit awhile and get to know them.
We are still here with a home full of people who don’t want to go anywhere. Some have moved but would love for this to turn around and allow them to come “back home” very soon.
This is a very important matter affecting many wonderful people who live here and potentially many still to come who may be a part of your own family.

Letter: Policy issues are hurting kids
To the editor:
Mr. Mitchell, in reference to your answer in the Times-Leader (“Ham. Co. Schools to change policy,” Page 1A, June 10), you still just don’t get it. I thought you, as an administrator, would at least have a clue as to the facts at hand. -
Letter: McLeansboro 1958 frozen in time for former resident

Growing up in McLeansboro during the 1940s and ’50s imprinted upon me the value of friends and keeping alive the memories of times and places now a part of McLeansboro’s history. -
Letter: Board’s jurisdiction stretches only so far
To the editor:
It has come to my attention through the Times-Leader (“Policy question,” April 29, Page 1A) that the Hamilton County School Board is grappling with making a decision about shooting at an out-of- town gun club. -

As a graduate of McLeansboro High School Class of 1999 and a current band director in Southern Illinois, I am appalled at the letter written last week (March 18, Page 4A) by Linda Shaw. -
Letter: County ‘fortunate’ to have two state recreation sites
To the editor:
I must respectfully disagree with Mr. Wilton's letter (March 11, Page 4A) regarding possibly selling Illinois Department of Natural Resources property in Hamilton County. Personally, I think that would be a very dumb thing to do. - More Opinion Headlines
