McLEANSBORO —
George Rubenacker, 92, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and formerly of Piopolis, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Ormond Beach.
Mr. Rubenacker was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for and retired from the Department of the Navy as a technical writer and received the 40-year service award from the Department of the Navy.
He was born Jan. 31, 1918, to Pius and Anna Rubenacker.
George’s wife, Wilma Marie Rubenacker, preceded him in death.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. Clement’s Catholic Church in McLeansboro. Father Slawomir Ptak will conduct the funeral Mass. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the church. Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be at St. Clement’s Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Kiefer (wife Sherry) of Ormond Beach and Mark Rubenacker of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Craig (husband Joe) of Fort Myers, Fla.; and three grandsons, Joseph, Dylon and Morgan Craig, all of Fort Myers.
George received his bachelor of science degree in accounting from George Washington University.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Brendon’s Catholic Church, where he, along with his wife, Wilma, volunteered many hours at Second Harvest and Family Renew.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rubenacker was preceded in death by his parents.
