McLEANSBORO — Helen E. Mitchell, 97, of McLeansboro, died 12:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 17, 1914, in Franklin County, a daughter of Charles and Emma (Phillips) Johnson.

Helen is survived by her stepdaughter, Louise Joshlin of Belle Rive; her nieces and nephews, Dorothy (husband Norval Clay) Sherley of Macedonia, Phyllis (husband Art) Malchert of McLeansboro, Jim (wife Marsha) Depoister of Lake City, Fla., John (wife Karen) Depoister of Manteno, and Phillip (wife Diane) Depoister of Valparaiso, Ind.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother, Donald Johnson; and one sister, Pauline Depoister.

Helen was a retired licensed practical nurse and had worked at the Mt. Vernon Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Mt. Vernon. She was a past member of Eastern Star and the Christian Church in McLeansboro.

Services were held Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment was at Liberty Cemetery in Macedonia.

Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
