Clyde W. Summers, 84, McLeansboro, passed away 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Summers taught in several one-room schools in Hamilton County. He was principal at Dahlgren and also taught at Flannigan School.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Dale, a son of Lealon R. and Mabel (Mann) Summers. Clyde and his wife, Doris (Hammontree) Summers, were married Oct. 11, 1945, in McLeansboro; she preceded him in death.
His funeral was Wednesday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Burial was at Little Springs Cemetery, west of Dale.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jean Myers and husband Dennis of Harrisburg and Brenda Roberts of McLeansboro; one granddaughter, Teresa Ballantyne and husband Jeff of Ashley; four grandsons, Richard Myers of Harrisburg, Michael Myers of Marion, Clyde Everett Roberts of Nashville, Tenn. and Matthew Roberts and wife Susan of Norris City; three great-grandchildren, Jayne Ballantyne and Damion and Bladon Roberts; one sister, Betty VanWinkle and husband Ted of McLeansboro; one brother, Bill Summers and wife Linda of Colombia Falls, Mont.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mr. Summers loved farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing.
He was a past member of the McLeansboro Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; one son, Jerry Wayne Summers; and a brother, Clare Summers.
Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, was in charge of arrangements.
