McLEANSBORO — The second annual Race to the Finish Dinner to benefit the ongoing athletic track improvement project will be held Saturday at the Hamilton County Junior/Senior High School Commons.
The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the meal by Country Creations served at 6:30 p.m.
The high school girls track team will be modeling again this year.
“They approached us and asked if they could do it again this year, so of course we said yes!” Race to the Finish volunteer Marilyn Lewis said. “The girls have asked the boys track team to escort them once again, and they agreed.” Numerous donations have been received for a silent auction, Lewis said. There will also be a “youth auction” again this year, she said.
Local auctioneer Don Burke will be auctioning items to the highest bidder.
To this point, all of the improvements to the track facility have been paid for, Lewis said.
“We have purchased and paid for the hurdles,” she said. “We are now working on purchasing equipment for the pole vaulting. We have youth that are waiting to see if we can purchase it so they can go out for track. It sounds like there is plenty of interest in pole vaulting.”
The volunteer committee also wants to complete a sidewalk around the north, south and east sides of the track, Lewis said.
“As you could see if you attended a football game last fall, it was pretty muddy and wet,” she said. “We feel this will not only help with track meets, but football games as well.”
As part of its fundraising efforts, the committee is selling advertising for display on the hurdles, Lewis said.
“When you purchase a hurdle ad ... it will remain on the hurdle,” she said. “It is not something we will resell in three or four years. Those ads are selling pretty well already, and they look nice.”
• Tickets to the dinner are still available. For information: Julie Thomas, 838-2915, or Marilyn Lewis, 643-2328, Ext. 6100, or 308-0793.
