CARMI —
Two Enfield teenagers died in a two-vehicle wreck Friday night in Wayne County, according to Illinois State Police.
Four other people were hurt in the crash which happened about 10 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 45, north of Wayne County Road 200N, state police at District 19 reported.
Benjamin S. Ingram, 18, of Enfield, was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger south on U.S. 45 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a northbound 2001Jeep Wrangler driven by William C. Yarnell, 18, of Fairfield, the preliminary crash investigation indicated.
Both Ingram and a passenger in his vehicle, 16-year-old Taylor Cokley of Enfield, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Neither was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police reported.
Yarnell, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries, police reported.
Three other passengers in Yarnell's vehicle received serious injuries.
Andrew R. Atteberry, 18, of Fairfield, and two juveniles, who police did not identify, were taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. All three were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police reported.
A state police crash reconstruction officer was assigned to assist in the investigation.
Complete obituary information on Ingram and Cokley is posted in the Obituaries section of this Web site.
