McLEANSBORO —
A Broughton man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Justin B. Heflin, 28, was convicted of the Class 2 felony Aug. 5 in Hamilton County Circuit Court.
Judge Barry Vaughan sentenced Heflin to four-and-a-half years in state prison and ordered him to pay a $200 fine plus other fines and court costs.
During a police interview, Heflin admitted to two sexual encounters with a girl between the ages of 13 and 17, he being at least five years older than the girl at the time, State’s Attorney Justin Hood said in a court document.
The alleged offenses took place between Dec. 1, 2009, and Feb. 1 of this year, the charges indicated.
As part of the plea agreement, a second count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, in a separate case were dismissed, court records indicated.
Heflin’s projected parole date is July 5, 2012, according to information on the Illinois Department of Corrections Web site.
