Leaders discuss nursing center
McLEANSBORO — Community leaders have expressed “a collective desire to work together” to keep Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center open and operating, a statement issued Monday said.
Faced with operating losses of $35,000 to $40,000 per month, the board of directors of Hamilton Memorial Hospital District, which operates the nursing center, has been looking at its options. They include selling the nursing center to a private operator or converting it to a skilled-care nursing home, Chief Executive Officer Randy Dauby said recently.
Closing the nursing center would be a last resort, Dauby said.
Local leaders — representing the hospital district, the city of McLeansboro, Hamilton County Board and Southern and Central Laborers’ Union Local 1197, along with state and federal legislators — met Friday to discuss a possible course of action in regard to the future of the nursing center.
Leaders held a round-table discussion to review any and all steps that can be taken to maintain the facility for its employees and residents, the statement issued by the hospital district said.
