MT. VERNON —
A onetime Hamilton County resident who lost both his legs while serving his country in Vietnam will be the guest speaker at the 2010 Mt. Vernon Prayer Breakfast.
Tim Lee, a full-time evangelist since 1979, was once a rebellious teenager and son of a Baptist minister who “walked the streets of McLeansboro ... in violent protest to all ordained authority in the home, the church, the school,” information from his Web site, Tim Lee Ministries, states.
Lee joined the Marine Corps in 1969 and was eventually sent to southeast Asia. In 1971, he was wounded by a land mine, which resulted in the loss of his legs.
In 1973, he became an evangelist and eventually became a speaker noted for his testimony, “Deadline Vietnam: The Day My Running Stopped,” according to information.
“As a group, we get together and try to get names we think could send a message to the community,” said Prayer Breakfast Vice Chairman Sherry Meadows on Lee’s invitation.
Lee has spoken before congressmen, senators, governors, mayors and other elected officials, information states.
“He’s a dynamic person, and God is using him in a tremendous way,” said Prayer Breakfast committee member Debbie Elliot Marlow.
Program Chair Tyler Brown said he was excited to hear Lee, and hopes everyone who attends “gets something out of it.”
“The Prayer Breakfast is always one of my favorite events,” he said. “It’s the largest gathering the Holiday Inn does annually. It’s an event when all churches in the community come together.”
