Remember When? Ex-Elm Grove students met for reunion
Editor’s note: The following is a reprint of an article which ran in 1960.
The Elm Grove School homecoming was held on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Izaak Walton Cabin. A lovely dinner was spread at 1 p.m. After lunch, a short program was given with Wilburn Cullins, a former pupil and teacher in charge.
Mrs. Harry Ward gave a very interesting history of the school. K.P. Mitchell read the “School Notes” which Kenneth Mitchell had prepared while in school was read by Mr. Cullins.
Harry Schols, age 90 was the oldest person attending. Mr. Echols commented on his school experiences. Among former pupils over 80 who attended were: Mrs. Ann Moore Holland, C.A. Mitchell, Mrs. Anna Nunley Holland, Oscar Moore and Rolla Compton.
The eight former teachers attending were: Albert Mitchell, Wilburn Cullins, Omer Redfern, Mr. Zelia Edington Davis, Chester Moore, Mrs. Alberta Tennyson, Mrs. Beatrice Bramlet and Miss Rosa McLain.
It was voted to make the homecoming an annual affair on the fourth Sunday in September. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows, President, Mrs. D.E. Mitchell; Mrs. Zelia Davis; Treasurer, Mrs. Zella Daily.
Approximately 130 persons attended the homecoming.
